meth addictionMethamphetamine is a highly addictive drug that can have serious implications on ones health and life. It is sometimes also referred to as dirty drug since the addict does not maintain personal hygiene. It is very unfortunate that Methamphetamine is easily available in the United States and more and more people are getting into meth addiction.

Meth addiction can have damaging effects on the brain cells apart from causing cardiovascular diseases. Users soon get hooked to this drug not realizing how difficult it is to get rid of this addiction. Given below are some ways to know if someone is addicted to meth and need help.

  • Meth addicts lose weight fast and it makes them appear sick. Apart from this, continuous abuse results in tooth decay.meth addiction
  • You can smell body odor from meth addicts and their faces also become pale.
  • Due to excessive picking, you can see sores on the body of meth addicts.
  • They lose sleep, eat less and seldom smile. Also, meth addicts don’t socialize much and stay aloof from family and friends.
  • The affect of the drug is such that they don’t realize what their responsibilities are. Meth addicts lose interest in life and their performance at job also gets affected. There have been incidents where parents who were addicted to meth did not care about children at all. Meth addicts also blame others for their wrong doings.
  • The addicts become highly energetic and paranoid as well. They like to take things apart like electronics and gadgets. Also, their sexual behavior becomes obsessive and perverse.
  • Those under meth addiction communicate unclearly and sometimes their speech becomes impaired. At times they become violent too.
  • Other symptoms of meth addiction are nervous twitching, grinding teeth, clenching jaw, and rotting teeth.

Meth is VERY difficult to quit. Many addicts who have tried getting rid of this addiction at home have relapsed later. To recover from meth permanently, meth addicts need to spend time in a recovery center.

At the Mark Houston Recovery Center, residents follow a perfectly planned daily routine in serene and calm surroundings. 2. Every morning at approximately 4:00-4:20 a.m. I smell what appears to be burnt oil, or plastic burning. Sometimes it smell sweet, other times it smell like chemical. Overall, I get a terrible headache. This odor is about to force me to move out of my house. I wake up with a terrible headache. I dread going to sleep because when I wake up that foul odor will be lingering in the air. What can I do about this problem?

  3. every time i visit my close relative, the apartment next to her which belongs to a middle-aged couple smells like burnt plastic. i met them once, and the man was sitting on the deck smoking something that smelled horrible. his speech was slurred, and he seemed almost blind and deaf. he invited my relative inside, and of course, i stupidly went in after her. their apartment was in shambles. they had just moved here from tuscan. the woman had lumpy skin, and itched her hands a lot. it smelled SOOO horrible, and they had coolers and cigarettes everywhere. we got outta there fast. when we left, the man seemed drunk, and while we were inside, he had fallen down outside. what do i do?

  4. Sara,

Thank you for commenting. Well God willing they are not producing Meth next door, because that can be extremely dangerous. If you really suspect something might be up I would suggest calling your local PD and letting them know what you suspect. There are non-emergency lines for such matters. They should be better able to direct you.

  6. McKenzie,

It’s hard to say what might be going on with your friend, it could be drugs, it could be a personality disorder, or she simply might just act kind of strange. If you really feel concerned for her, and given what she said to you, it may be best to tell someone who might be able to help in person. You might ask a teacher, or school nurse to assess the situation and see if your friend might need help/confirm your suspicions.

  7. So, i’ve heard that this guy i used to see might be using meth..because of the people he’s been hanging around with. i’m not sure if it’s true, but more than likely it is. we spent some time together the other day, and he did seem different. he wouldn’t hold my hand like he always did, he seemed paranoid, and he looked demonish or something. it was kind of scary. And i could tell that he’s lost some weight. i’m not sure what to do about it. i care about him too much to let him get involved with something so horrible.

  8. Hi. I’m 17 years old and I’m extremely confused. My parents just recently got divorced about 6 months ago. My mom became very depressed and started to hang around this one guy at her work almost instantly after the divorce. It became obvious that they were dating. They were always together and always lock themselves in my moms bedroom. One night I unexpectedly came home and the house smelled of marijuana. So I just assumed that was all they were consuming in there but in a matter of 3 months my mom has lost a HUGE amount of weight. She was probably 180 pounds and is now roughly 110 pounds. My mom began constantly fighting with me and yelling at me, she even hit my dad a few times. She also began making really scary, threatening and creepy comments about my dad and had made threatening comments to family friends about doing bodily harm to herself and me. I believe she is using meth and is still in the early signs of it. No I have not smelt in the house, I suspect she snorts it in my house and smokes it at her boyfriends house. I’ve read a lot about meth and my dads job field includes dealing with meth addicts. My question is, is she using meth? Thank You.

  9. Hi,
Im not sure if my sister is using meth. She is 30 and has 3 kids, we have always had a really close relationship but for this last year he has been so distant from me. She has no interest in what her girls do or what is going on in their lives (8 and 11 and a 1 year old son). She wasnt like this before, she partied alot and went out alot but now she just hangs out with her friends and out in the streets all day, with friends i’ve never met. She is constantly lying about everything so i know she is hiding something. She has always been a thin person but never as thin as she is now. she is smaller than she was in high school, she looks sick, my sister is almost albino so its hard to tell if she is pale, but her hair is starting to fall out and thin out. She dosnt care about her apperence like she used to, and has no motivation to do anything other than hang with her friends. She also has had complection problems in the past but never this bad, but im not sure if it is due to the possible use of meth. She openly smokes marajuana, and her use is very heavy. I have confronted her about it and asked her if she is using anything else other than the weed, but he denies it. She told me about a few of her close friends that got caught by family members smoking meth, but as i said she totally denies using. I know that the friends she does hang out with use, but they and she deny any use of anything other than weed. i think she maybe smoking the weed to cover up the meth. How can i tell for sure if she is using meth.

  10. I have a son who is 28 years old. Approximately 5 years ago, my younger son (20 at the time) told me that his brother Matt was using meth. Matthew lived on his own and owned his own home. When I would try to talk to him about it, he denied this. I knew nothing about this drug and wasn’t sure if my younger son knew what he was talking about. About a year or so later, Matt was arrested for impersonating a police officer. After that, he was arrested for assauting his father (who lived with him - he and I divorced when Matt was very young). I questioned Matt because his father told me that he was talking to himself and he said that Matt was increassingly paranoid. Later, Matt was arrested for kicking a window in a place of business. After that arrest and while he was incarcerated, I tried to convince Matt he should get help but he still denied using drugs. It was during his time in jail, that his home went into foreclosure. I tried to help him and had him deed the home to me so I could clean it up, sell it, and have something for him. While I was cleaning up his home, I found several signs of drug use (syringes, pipes, etc.) along with gay pornography. I sold his house, but he went through all the money in about a year and has accused me of stealing from him. His father has since died (he was also a long time drug user - hot meth, but other things), and my younger son died last year (2008) by suicide. I only have Matthew left. I have tried to get him to get treatment, but have not been successful. He lives in Texas and I live in Northern Virginia. He is homeless in TX. He is also on SSI because he has been diagnosed with HIV. Is there anything I can do. With him being an adult and supposedly not being a danger to others or himself, the police here have told me there is nothing I can do. He has threatened to break my windows in my car, but that is not enough for them to arrest him according to Fairfax county. Does his behavior sound like Meth? Also, he looks like a very different person. He used to be very clean well kept. He is now very dirty, doesn’t look like he has showered for months. He also is very thin. He is 5′8″ tall and weighs about 110 maybe. He used to be extremely intelligent, now when I talk to him he rambles about things that don’t make any sense. I don’t know how to get him help. I don’t have the money to pay for treatment as my income is not enough.

  11. There are a few ways to determine if someone is using drugs. One is a urinalysis, though it would be fairly hard to get this done without the person knowing. Another is a hair sample analysis. You would need to find a lab that can perform this for you and find out how much of a sample you need.

Many people will deny drug use if asked.

  12. My stepdaughter goes to visit her mother every other weekend. Her mother is a former meth ADDICT. She had a clean drug test that enabled her to get unsupervised visitation, but recently we have noticed a dramatic change in her. She has lost a lot of weight, she looks almost sickly, her scalp is red and raw looking (i assume from picking) and she is often incoherent and disoriented when talking to us on the phone. She frequently calls to argue and is aggressive. Due to her history, we feel that she has relapsed. What measures can we take to keep my step daughter safe?

  13. It sounds like you may have grounds to request that she take another drug test to maintain visitation rights. Social Services may be able to help. I would suggest that you contact a lawyer to find out what legal rights you have with regards to her visitation rights. Ask the lawyer if there is anything that would keep you from being able recording her on the phone.

I would hope that the visitation rights were conditional on her remaining drug free. From your description it does sound like she may be using again.
