We are thrilled to announce that the Mark Houston Recovery Center is the cover story in this month’s Treatment Magazine. The 3 page spread talks about how entrepreneur-funded and organized drug and alcohol recovery programs are winning public interest and fueling a rapid expansion in the recovery industry.

The article talks about the explosion of “cookie cutter” treatment centers of the 80’s when health insurance dollars flooded the industry. While these large corporate treatment centers were the norm for many years, article author Ted Jackson points out that the recovery centers launched by the entrepreneur, filled with passion for his or her mission, are quickly earning the patronage of those who need them.

Readers of this blog know that Mark Houston began the Mark Houston Recovery Center after working in the professional drug and alcohol treatment industry for years, but felt as if the programs were missing key components that could lead to a higher success rate.

Not only do most 30 day treatment centers not offer a sufficient amount of time for recovering addicts to adopt a sober living lifestyle, Mark knew from his own experience as a recovering addict that life in sobriety can be awful without something positive to fill the void left by drugs or alcohol.  It is for this reason that he designed the Mark Houston Recovery Program to teach men life skills including:

  • Leadership skills
  • Financial sanity
  • Fitness program and systematic exercise
  • Nutrition
  • Hygiene
  • Organizational skills
  • Goal setting

Marks more personalized approach to recovery also teaches 12 spiritual laws:

  • Law of Consent
  • Law of Caring
  • Law of Cause and Effect
  • Law of Use
  • Law of Responsibility
  • Law of Substitution
  • Law of Relaxation
  • Law of Subconscious Activity
  • Law of Practice
  • Law of Forgiveness
  • Law of Growth
  • Law of Intent

Congratulations Mark for your courage not only to embark on such a massive entrepreneurial challenge, but in your success. Though Mark is a modest man, no one can deny the success his center has achieved. By the time it celebrated its one year anniversary last month, the Center had already almost doubled its bed count from 25 to 40 and grown from one residential living structure to two, with a third facility for recreation and offices.
