According to an article that was printed in a British newspaper, almost 5,000 children under the age of 18 were hospitalized last year because of drinking too much alcohol. According to data from the National Health Service (NHS), in 2006/2007, the equivalent of approximately 100 children per week ended up in a hospital due to drinking alcohol. If those results weren’t staggering enough, these figures have doubled in the past decade alone!

Nothing Good Ever Comes From Alcohol

Alcohol abuse can lead to all sorts of problems such as cirrhosis of the liver, heart disease, psychological/brain functioning problems which can lead to being placed in an institution as well as the many car accidents, deaths from car accidents and other assault-type injuries from consuming too much alcohol.

According to a recent survey conducted by the NHS, it was discovered that the number of children who consume alcohol has decreased over the years has decreased with a good majority of children claiming that they don’t drink alcohol at all. However, for the percentage left who do drink, they are drinking more than ever and at more serious rates. For example, the number of prescription drugs dispensed in primary care to treat alcohol dependency has increased by 20% in the last four years, according to the article.

So, what can be done? Why are children drinking alcohol? Perhaps the answer rests with the parents.

  1. ya, I think most children are getting used to drinking alcohol earlier in life. The government has to take certain actions to prevent this kind of problem……Todays children are tomorrows citizens…we must teach children how dangerous alcohol is …………..
