Marijuana is considered to be a very mild type of illegal drug that many people use recreationally. It is very inexpensive so it is a common drug of choice for those that can’t afford to buy anything else. The use of marijuana dates back to early history and it can be traced in all of the various cultures.

In the United States, the use of marijuana rose substantially in the 1970’s during the time in history where free spirits and flower children were the thing. Many people find marijuana to be a harmless type of drug and one that they should make legal. In fact, some say that the government should legalize marijuana so they can charge taxes on it. The biggest problem with that idea though is how people act when they use it. Some claim that marijuana use is no different than drinking alcohol, but for now, Marijuana is illegal in the US.

It is believed that marijuana has too many ill effects for it to become legal. Users of this drug claim it helps them to feel relaxed, but research shows it can cause mood swings, affect reaction times, and cause short term memory loss.

Marijuana lost some of its bad reputation in 1988 when researchers were able to prove it does offer some medical benefits. In studies, marijuana was shown to improve the effects of migraine headaches and even some forms of cancer. For a short time doctors were able to write prescriptions for specific amounts of marijuana for such illnesses. In 2005 the United States Supreme Court overturned this right though and it is now illegal without exception in the United States.

Marijuana has had an interesting history, but for right now, it’s role in history is strictly illegal!
