Celebrity Drug Exploitation

I have never been a fan of reality shows in general, but I do have a pecking order of ones that I find most abhorrent. I find the show, “Celebrity Rehab” with Dr. Drew most appalling. The reason I feel this way is because shoving cameras in the faces of people with serious problems can do nothing to help. In fact, I think that these specific people, D-List celebrities, are more likely to be involved with the show due to its ability to jump start a career rather than jump start sobriety. The show bills itself by the following, from VH1’s website:
“Celebrity Rehab” is the first television series to chronicle the dramatic, unscripted real life experiences of a group of actual celebrities as they make life-changing decisions to enter themselves into a drug, alcohol, and addiction treatment program with the sincere desire to achieve true rehabilitation and recovery.
It’s not that I have anything against Dr. Drew. I remember watching him on “Loveline” about 100 years ago and thinking of him as an adroit and sincere professional. I think the problem stems more from VH1. Dr. Drew was actually involved in a public service announcment dealing with drug addiction and recovery, but upon completion of the announcement I was greeted by TGI Fridays and their $5.99 hamburger special. The idea of putting a commercial…after a commercial, is what gets me. I understand that VH1 is out to make a buck, but there has got to be a better way to do it than by expoliting people who have a serious problem.

Yes, those ads are getting me nuts also, but we need to bear with them as they need some source of money.
