Tutu, or not tutu

Throughout my years, I have fallen victim to many fashion faux paux, including the ever embarrassing hot pink stretchy pants that I rocked from about 2nd to 5th grade. Thankfully however, I was never forced by my parents to showcase the pink frilly tutu when attending dance class. It is evident from current TV shows that teen dancewear has come a very long way in terms of elegance and style from the staple look of the tutu. Take for instance the infamously popular hit, So You Think You Can Dance. Sure, those contestants have the expert talents of Hollywood helping them along, but that doesn’t refute the fact that the outfits displayed on that show are more beautiful than the Sistine Chapel. I can’t help but be mesmerized at the diamonds, colors, and designs that drape the dancers.

The clothing that one chooses to wear for a recital or TV show has a major effect on how the judges and audience perceive you. How those dancers can breath, let alone dance in those costumes is beyond me. And on top of this, have you ever seen what those dancers wear on their feet? OK, so I know I’m not the most elegant person, but I don’t understand how the dancers on this show practically do back-flips in high heels. From personal experience I can attest to the fact that shoes, brands such as Capezio dance shoes, are probably the most important part of a dancer’s wardrobe. Think about it. You get to your audition and you look down into your bag only to discover that you grabbed your sister’s dance shoes which are 2 sizes too small! So now what?

I have no professional dance experience whatsoever. All I have are the late night romps throughout my house attempting to spin myself around on my arms without breaking anything. However, I do know that dance is all about looking good and being comfortable while you do it. Thankfully, dancewear has aged beautifully over the years and as long you refrain from busting out the tutu, I think your fashion faux paux days are over.
