About Garland

Located in Dallas County, this suburban city has a population of more than 200,000 people and became immortalized in TV pop culture as the setting for the hit animated show King of the Hill. Show creator and Garland native Mike Judge found it a fitting homage to his hometown. Noted country singer Leann Rimes also hails from Garland. Sprung from the Peters colony area the town was originally called Duck Creek. It got its colorful name from the General Augustus Hill Garland who was attorney general in the late 1800s. Surviving a devastating tornado that wiped out most of the city n 1927, Garland began to grow again and eventually blossomed in the beautiful little city it is today.
