The War On Drugs -- San Antonio Battlefront

It's been nearly 40 years since the Nixon Administration officially declared the "war on drugs," but unlike a war with a clear cut good and bad side this is a war with many dimension that's has been as devastating and far reaching as if the cities in our country had actually had a war.  San Antonio is no stranger to this war. In fact it's been one of the major battlefields because of it's proximity to Mexico and criminal element that tries to smuggle illegal drugs across the border. Unfortunately the victims in this war and the expense to communities like San Antonio far outnumber the victors. For Alamo City victory has to be found on a smaller battlefield. Neighborhoods, schools and local law enforcement have and continue to remain committed to reducing illegal drugs and the gangs and violence associated with illegal drugs. Just a few of these brave 'soldiers" in fighting this war include: the Bexar County Sheriffs Department, the San Antonio Police Department (S.A.P.D), the local District Attorney's Office, and police departments in the school districts. Additionally there is also a large network of local civic and community organizations working together to fight drugs in their city, suburban and rural neighborhoods. It's a hard fought battle that takes time and energy but it's not one that has to be lost. If you have not been successful at drug relapse prevention or in a drug rehab rehab center you haven't lost your battle against drug addiction. Like the war on drugs, drug addiction is a hard fought battle. Mark Houston Recovery is prepared to help you fight that battle. It's not an easy win but we're willing to try as much as the entire city of San Antonio is willing to try to keep their communities drug free.

Fighting The War With Real Soldiers

Thanks to the help of the soldiers of the Fifth U.S. Army stationed at San Antonio's Fort Houston the city has been able to establishing a community outreach program that allows fifth and sixth graders in depressed areas in San Antonio an opportunity to attend a weekend camp six times a year with adventure training and practical life skills. As bonus the kids get the benefit of having soldiers who volunteer their time to serve as positive role models. The camp takes place at Fort Houston and with the combined efforts of the military element at the Fort, school officials, teachers, parents and volunteers from the S.A.P.D and San Antonio Fighting Back, they are able to make a difference in the lives of these children in a safe, drug-free, positive environment. Mark Houston Recovery has been affected by the 40-year war as much as any other group. Many of our dedicated professionals, including Mark Houston, have been survivors of this war. And because of that willingness to survive and the understanding of how important it is to not give up that we can do more than the drug relapse prevention program or drug rehab center. We wage battle with this war by helping the victims become survivors.
