Drug and Alcohol Recovery Continuum of Care

When you think about drug and alcohol addiction, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Now, when you think about moving beyond the  addiction and returning to a life of normalcy, what do you picture? For many people who are addicted to drugs, the vast majority of them are quick to deny that a problem even exists. This is why it is so incredibly important to surround yourself with people who care about you. Often times, those who are addicted to drugs or alcohol will find themselves in a situation where they will think that they can solve the problem themselves. They may somehow manage to accept responsibility in the fact that they are able to recognize that they are addicted to drugs or alcohol. However, thinking that you can stop using drugs or alcohol on your own is almost impossible.

In the event that someone checks themselves into a drug and alcohol rehab facility to get help for their problem, the issue still remains as to what will happen to that person once they finish up a 30-day recovery program or a 90-day recovery program. How will they resist the temptation to use again? What skills have they learned? There is no shame in accepting help or even asking for help from those people who care about you. Often, your family or friends will play a key role in whether or not you experience a drug or alcohol relapse. A Continuum of Care That Works For You

While each recovering addict will receive a continuum of care from Mark Houston Recovery, it is not uncommon ( and in fact, it may be expected) for a recovering drug addict to experience a relapse back into drug or alcohol abuse. However, it should be noted that this doesn't mean that he or she has failed. Instead, it simply represents the fact that perhaps a new approach needs to be taken; something needs to change in their living situation.

Drug and alcohol recovery isn't like repairing a leaky faucet; there isn't one simple way to fix it. Instead, being addicted to drugs or alcohol is a long-term, progressive disease, which means that it can become worse over a period of time if nothing is done. This is why it is so important to have help from the people who care about you, not to mention the fact that each recovering drug and alcohol addict must adhere to his or her continuum of care long after they have stepped out of the doors at Mark Houston Recovery.

The Long Road to Recovery

As stated earlier, the road to complete and total sobriety is, unfortunately, often a lifelong one. Recovering alcohol addicts cannot have an “occasional alcoholic drink” without risking becoming addicted to alcohol all over again. Similarly, a recovering heroin addict cannot go out and use heroin just once without risking becoming instantly hooked all over again.
